Fade In

INTERNAL – HELEN AND JUDIE’S APARTMENT – KITCHEN – PRESENT

In the foreground the camera shows Helen sitting on a bench watching the TV that is on the balcony of the kitchen. She cuts something on this balcony with a knife (but it’s not possible to see what, because the TV blocks the vision).

Helen is watching a morning soap-opera, a moving scene (only the sound) and tears trickle down her cheeks. In the background Judie enters the door. Inattentive and reading a newspaper, she walks to the refrigerator. Embarrassed Helen wipes her tears and Judie opens the refrigerator, takes a milk carton and drinks (directly from the carton). Then she dries her lips on her shirt-sleeve and suddenly realizes that she is not alone. She looks up and sees Helen, who is unable to hold back her tears.

Moved, Juditree comes up to Helen and embraces her. Then she sees what Helen is cutting and looking at Helen again she steps back and, surprised, strikes her on the head with the newspaper. Then she leaves the scene by the kitchen-door.
Helen throws her arms out and shows the knife in one hand and an onion in the other.
